And now I'm beginning to think President Obama is going to break my heart too. I hope I'm wrong, but it's looking more and more like I'll be right. The President signed an earmark laden budget, he's giving the auto industry and banks that should rightfully fail almost unlimited cash, giving lip service to providing battlefield prisoners with the basic rights needed to defend themselves and ensure their trials are fair, carrying on the rendition program while just moving around the prisoners we're currently holding. Additionally, Obama is adamant about continuing the Bush policy of giving money to religious programs going under the guise of faith-based initiatives. How could I be anything other than pessimistic at this point?

Of them all, it's allowing the Bush administration's recent legacy of torture to go unchallenged that saddens me the most. I need to know our country is better than that. If our government doesn't show that we are better than malicious torture, even in a time of endless war, then I'll never be able to believe in America's great promise. What a shame that would be for me, and what a loss of principle it would be for our country.

Travis was a wild animal that should have been allowed to live his life in the wild with others of his species. It seems to me that Travis was more like Ms. Herold's meal ticket. She was able to put him on display and made money from Travis. Face it, money means absolutely nothing to an animal. It only has value for the human population. So ultimately; Ms. Herold is responsible for Travis's death, the attack on her friend, and the awful recovery her friend is now experiencing. You may not see the blood Ms. Herold, but it's there.

The young elephant Mosha lost a good chunk of her right leg after stepping on a landmine. Dr. Therdchai Jivacate fitted Mosha with a prosthetic leg so that, as she grows larger and heaveir, she will be able to survive her later years. It is the sweetest story imaginable. That one doctor would care for an animal (he normally makes prosthetic devices for humans) so much just touches my heart. We really need to finish Princess Diana's work and rid the world of landmines. They're a menace to both humans and animal.

I picked up the latest issue of Time magazine (I know, who reads that shit pile anymore?) and was surprised to find out that The Cramps' singer Lux Interior died on February 4, 2009, at the age of 62. Besides being deeply saddened by Lux's death, I had to marvel that the man was sixty-fucking-two years old. I used to love the Cramps. I never made my way to one of their shows though. My loss. The Cramps had some great songs, and I loved the deranged surf sound they created. Kind of like The Ventures meeting The Addams Family meeting Russ Meyer. My deepest sympathy goes to Lux's wife, Poison Ivy. Those two had quite an original take on both the world and on music. In memory of Lux I'm posting The Cramps' video Bikini Girls with Machine Guns. Enjoy. Weep if you must, but enjoy.

UPDATE: After reading through this issue of Time magazine I realize I was wrong to have called it a shit pile. The magazine is still pretty good. I just get so sick of their religious articles. Time always seems to promote the lie of god and Jesus. It's bullshit and I expect better from the magazine: That's why I dropped my subscription years ago. I saw Steven Sebring's film Dream of Life the other evening, and it was excellent. This film about rocker Patti Smith took 11 years to make and is as visually dense as it is engrossing. Even though I left the theater felling I didn't get the whole story of Smith's life, I did leave sated with the gloriousness of Smith's story and her life's journey. The audience is introduced to Smith's heroes, loves, band, and family. Sebring's style mixes grainy footage and fashion ready color adeptly, allowing his love of Patti and her music to stand front and center. There were 2 things that really struck me. The first is that Patti needs to clean her place up. Or at least hire someone to clean it for her. The second is that Patti is quite the clothes horse. She may like a masculine or androgynous look, but that look costs mucho pesos. I'll definitely buy this movie when it comes out on video. It's a stunning as Patti.

I made notes while watching it. I'm sorry for the tense changes.

First off: That announcer chick is annoying. A-noy-ing. And the music sample right now reminds me of an electronic slot machine. This things feels more NV than CO. So far, anyway.

Liked the Carter thing. I wanted to hear Carter speak, but they shuffled him offstage. The bio film was enough. I just loves me the Carter.

Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL, 2ND District) annoys me. His McCain joke is lame. (You know, McCain, houses, keys, which lock to insert then into. Not much funnier when Jr. tells it). Jackson is like a 2ND tier preacher. A preacher in training? Blah. He dressed down Dr. Cornel West earlier, afraid Cornell was going to say something that might make headlines or scare off those undecideds.

Look, the mortician's make up gal has Senator Biden looking really embalmed.

I seemed to have missed Speaker Pelosi. I did see Obama's step-sister. I think she likes being on the TV. I could see her on Girlfriends. She has nice energy. Who knows about in person. It's how she treats the busser that counts. That's my test anyway. If someone treats their waiter or hotel maid shitty, that person is usually shitty, not the worker.

They're doing a whole Kravitz song. Biden just looks weird. His wife seems nice. She's trying to make sincere eye contact with Howard Dean.

Kennedy looks good; better than Biden. His laugh is a bit weird. HeHe. Kennedy's not reading the TelePrompTer very well. Still, he has a lot more energy than Caroline did. Jim Leach is erudite. Thin lipped, but erudite. He's kind of scaring me. Reminding me that Obama may find himself in the same position Carter now finds himself in. Through no fault of his own. Carter just got the stink stick and people blamed him.

That McCaskill queen was annoying. Claire's sounding a bit fake. She needs to dial it back. Wasn't making us watch her kids enough? She does seem to really like Obama. And she just mentioned a nation under god. Blech. Stop please. Just stop.

South Side Girl. How Gwen or JLo. This bio's nice. The antidote of Michelle and Barack meeting is a bit practiced. Having Michelle's mom narrate the piece was a brilliant idea. You know, I can imagine Craig Robinson being a drag queen. I don't know why I got that image.

Michelle looks very good. Her hair, something about her hair. She seems to be glowing too. Sincere. Pragmatic. She's getting a bit Hansberryish. Has Michelle had drama classes? I heard a call to Hillary fans. Michelle's over selling it now, to my mind. Barack can't do it all. He's bound to fail on somethings, big and small. I'm thinking of John Edwards right now. Like with Bill, that fucker broke my heart.

The girls make sense now that they have Barack on the Pee Wee Herman magic screen. It was still a bit precious.

So did Biden ever talk? Does he have to spend every night at the convention.

Fucking prayers. Just stop. Why do I have to listen to people praying to faeries? It's so insulting on so many levels. The least of which is that politics and prayers sound like state and church to me. Why pray for us over others anyway? Let's pray for others first, okay? Now jesus? How does that make the jewish guy that spoke earlier feel? Oh yeah, they had all the religios singing earlier in the day. At the beginning. Again, please stop with the religious crap DNC. Please? I ain't too proud to beg.

Okay, for what it's worth. That's how I felt about the Monday night C-SPAN coverage of the Democratic National Convention 2008 in Denver, CO.

Safari Times is the worst newspaper I've ever encountered. Not only is the premise of killing trophy animals sickening, the newspaper doesn't even remain true to that title. This newspaper is really a demented enterprise to celebrate the hunting of all animals (its web site's URL tells all: www.scifirstforhunters.org.) I guess the newspaper had to broaden its target market because the pith-hatted Conrad/Hemingway crowd just isn't that vast anymore. Now that I've finally blogged about this vile waste of paper I can finally get it out of my house and, hopefully, out of my system.
